Spinnup is about to embark on an exciting new chapter, and we’re glad you’re here for the ride.
We’re changing the way artists release with Spinnup, for the better. From the 19th of July 2022 Spinnup is changing from a DIY distribution service to a curated artist discovery & distribution platform. This is a positive change for us, and we want you, our artists, to have all the information you need so you know what this means and how it affects you and your music.
Spinnup will no longer be an open DIY music distribution service, and as a part of this shift we will be reducing the number of artists on the platform and are inviting a limited number of our artists to join us as we move into this new chapter. All our artists have been emailed to let them know if they have been invited to use the new curated Spinnup service.
Any brand-new artists will need to be invited to use Spinnup by the Spinnup team or any other Universal Music Group affiliates.
What does it mean for me?
With a limited number of artists invited onto the platform in our new curated edition, Spinnup will be able to focus on creating more opportunities for you to capture the attention of UMGs labels.
That means our team can better support your progress and search for opportunities within UMG and beyond.
How much does it cost?
All new releases and release subscription renewals will be free. In fact, subscription dates won’t even exist anymore. And you’ll continue to keep 100% of your royalties and all rights to your music.
If you have any existing release subscriptions due for renewal, from the 19th of July they’ll be free of charge. If you’d like to make any new releases between now and when we switch the service on the 19th of July, below is a voucher for you to use to distribute free of charge.
Will this change the way I release music?
The main difference you may notice when you create a release is that you will no longer be asked to choose a Single, EP or Album product. Instead, you’ll just go straight into the release creation section and upload your audio.
As releases will be free from the 19th of July you don’t need to worry about subscription renewals or having your release expire. Once our service change has been made you will see a subscription renewal date of 2030 next to each release, but don’t worry this is temporary and will be removed.
Will I still keep 100% of my royalties?
Yes! With Spinnup, artists keep ownership of their music and their earnings, which means you keep 100% of your royalties – even though releasing music with Spinnup is now free.
Do I need to do anything?
No! If all of this sounds great, just keep using Spinnup as usual – no need to opt-in or take any action.
Are there any other changes or new features?
On the 19th of July, as well as making release free, we are rolling out a host of new features including:
- TikTok snippet selection (no more default to the first 30 seconds!)
- YouTube monetisation at no extra cost to you
- Linkfire pre-save links for all releases.
What if I need help?
We now have a dedicated VIP Artist Support team in place for you to contact with any questions or for help with your releases. You can get in touch with them at email@example.com
Do I have to use this new service?
With Spinnup you always have a choice and your rights have not changed, you can continue using Spinnup or stop using the service as you have always done. For information on how to do that, head to our Help Centre.
How do I know what my subscription date is?
As releases are not free for artists, we have removed subscriptions dates entirely. You will see a subscription renewal date of 2030 next to each release, but this is only temporary and will be removed.
