How to Get Music on Apple Music for Artists
It’s safe to say that if you’re a musician, you have heard of Apple Music, and maybe even use it as your preferred streaming service. But some of you may be asking, exactly how do you get on Apple Music? Our answer: Spinnup!
First, what exactly is Apple Music?
Apple Music is Apple’s single intuitive app that combines a whole range of ways to enjoy music in one place. It includes a streaming music service, online radio including live 24 hour radio station Beats 1, and a whole range of expertly curated stations in genres ranging from indie rock to classical and folk to funk, and Apple Music Connect, which allows artists to share lyrics, photos, videos and songs and interact with their fans.
Apple Music is available in over 100 countries worldwide for an initial 3-month free membership after which a $9.99 monthly subscription fee applies. Apple Music also has a family plan for up to six family members for $14.99 a month.
Cool! But what’s Spinnup’s role in all this?
You can only get your music up on Apple Music through using an aggregator (like us), which means we do all the hard work for you to get your music online. All you need to do is create your release on Spinnup in a few easy steps, we have some handy tips in our FAQs on how to do this correctly. We then make sure it’s formatted correctly and meets Apple Music’s strict specifications, and voila! In a few days your music will be live for the world to stream. How great is that?
Not only will you have access to listeners worldwide, but with Spinnup you’ll also have the chance to be heard by our team of Scouts, who are constantly on the hunt for the best new talent to sign to Universal Music.
Wait, what? I could get a record deal?
That’s right! Spinnup is the only digital music distribution platform with a direct relationship with a major record label. Not only are we a distribution service, but a talent discovery platform for our parent company Universal Music, the world’s biggest record label.
Our dedicated team scour all of our releases to find the best talent to present to the teams of A&Rs at Universal Music. We’re proud to say that at the time of writing this, we have had 80 artists signed to Universal Music labels through Spinnup! Read through some of artist success stories here.
What’s so special about Apple Music?
Apart from being the streaming service of one of the world’s biggest tech brands, Apple Music is a great service for artists, no matter what end of the musical spectrum they fall on.
Once your tracks are up on Apple Music you can claim your artist profile using your Apple ID and password
One of the coolest features they provide is Apple Music For Artists, a platform that allows artists to share their own content such as behind the scenes photos, song lyrics, messages to fans, videos and more. Fans can then like, comment and share through iMessage, Facebook, Twitter, or email. This is open to all artists on Apple Music, not just the global superstars, so make the most of it! All you need is to log in to your Apple Music Profile, and share anything you like from a Mac device. Check out our Apple Music guide for artists here.
To find out more about it, can check out Apple’s step-by-step guide on how to share. You can then share all of this to your Facebook and Twitter accounts if you wish.
Keep in mind though, you must own the rights to this content and it is not monetised, you will only earn via sales and streams on your actual music on Apple Music and iTunes.
What if I already have music on iTunes, is it automatically on Apple Music?
Theoretically, yes. If you’re a Spinnup artist and your music is live on iTunes but isn’t showing up on Apple Music, contact our support team and they will look into it for you.
If I’m already on iTunes, should I bother with Apple Music?
Absolutely! Apple Music is one of the fastest growing streaming services and is constantly evolving and getting better. Both Apple Music and iTunes are available in over 100 countries worldwide, and with more and more music lovers around the world opting for streaming over downloads, it’s definitely worth being on both Apple music services.
