We’re back with our top picks of new music releases from Spinnup Asia! Here at Spinnup, we’re always keeping an eye out for emerging talents and the music that they release with us and share with the world, all while getting them discovered by folks at UMG. Our submission tool for independent artists to push their tracks further has helped us immensely in looking out for up-and-coming talent. Below are our Top 5 picks of new music releases in August:
“2 ON 2” – Advaitha
Advaitha, an R&B/trapsoul singer-songwriter, dropped her first single with Universal Music Singapore and she smashed it out of the park. The Spinnup alum signed with the record label earlier this year, being the second artist from Spinnup Asia to get signed to UMG. This track was featured on Spotify playlists such as Chill Lah, New Music Friday Malaysia & Singapore, Fresh Finds SG & MY, and Women of Singapore. Check out the music video below:
“Obelisk” – Advents
Advents, a four-piece alternative band from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, steers away from their usual indie rock sound and utilizes more MIDI and vintage drum beats in this one. It complements the story behind “Obelisk” really well, which is about a person’s fears of his past relationship haunting him in the future. They also recently joined the UMG family, signing a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Malaysia. This track made it to Spotify’s New Music Friday Malaysia, Chill Lah and Fresh Finds SG & MY playlists.
“Old Plans” – Adam E, Adam de Laut
Malaysian artist and producer Adam E reminisces on the good old days in his collab with Adam de Laut. This track pays homage to simpler times, which we can all relate to while we’re living through this pandemic. You can also find this track on Spotify’s New Music Friday Malaysia and Border Beats playlists.
“Epilogue” EP – RyanRazaly
The Malaysian artist/rapper from Malaysia wows us with his 5-track EP, “Epilogue”, a mix of R&B/hip hop/trap performed in Malay and English. The introductory track “Kejar Waktu” really stands out and provides a strong lead to the rest of tracks, thanks to his distinct vocals and production style. It was also selected by Spotify for its Border Beats and Bakat Segar playlists. This EP is a great showcase of other local talents in Malaysia, as it features emerging independent artists such as D’zy, Adiq Haikal, MÆYØ.
Right For Me – Ken Loh and Brodie Baldwin
Ken Loh has been on a roll this year, releasing a track with Spinnup every month. In August, the folk singer-songwriter released “Right for Me” with Australian indie-pop artist, Brodie Baldwin. Her timeless and intricate harmonies and Ken’s raw vocals make a great pair in this sentimental track, which alludes to the “right person, wrong time” type of relationship. This track was also featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday Singapore and Malaysia, Fresh Finds SG & MY, Chill Lah and Workspace playlists.
