Listen up friends, we’re back for 2019 to Introduce you to another year’s worth of amazing Spinnup talent.
This week we’re kicking things off with 21-year-old Milan-based singer-songwriter, producer and guitarist Alessia Labate. Born to a musician father and dancer mother, she’s always been surrounded by music, but her artistic journey really began when she learnt to play the piano and cello in school at 11. This early experience enhanced Alesssia’s interest in music and, following advice from her dad, began to play the guitar shortly after.
Alessia was first discovered as a contestant on ‘Io Canto’ – an Italian talent show – at age 12. This allowed her to tour Italy with the rest of the ‘Io Canto’ crew. A couple of years later, Alessia began to develop her songwriting, and at 17, she participated in ‘The Voice Italy’ and managed to get three out of the four judges turn their famous red chairs around. These public experiences were valuable in the way they genuinely shaped the way she creates music, and helped pave the way for her to enter a prestigious songwriting school to perfect her talent.
Nowadays, Alessia works as a freelance singer-songwriter and producer. But most importantly, she just released her debut single ‘Black Soul’ on Spinnup. The track is incredibly invigorating, seeing Alessia effortlessly blend delicate topline melodies with pop rhythms. Unlike what the candy pink background of the artwork would have you think, ‘Black Soul’ has a dark yet emotional vibe to it, not unlike US indie pop duo MSMR, that sets it apart from your typical pop song.
Alessia is working on an EP, to be released sometime this year and we can’t wait to hear more of her remarkable work!
