Introducing: Adée

This week Spinnup is happy to present to you – the up and coming Adée!

What is your musical background and when did you start with music?
I first started playing the flute when I was 9 years old. Then when I was 15 I had a wonderful teacher who pushed me to start singing and later on, rap, which I am so thankful for. I went on to study music production and song writing at Kulturama in Stockholm for three years, and during that time I made my first EP One Step Closer. In 2011 I started making music with my brother Pelle P and that year we released our hip hop EP Gör Om Gör Rätt and then our album Hybris, in 2012.

Who or what inspires you?
Everything inspires my song writing. I’m mostly inspired by my family and guitarist Bitte Appelqvist, who I perform with. Performing with Bitte pushes me and I feel my vocal skills grow with every show we play together. I also find inspiration from singers and artists like Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and our Swedish rap star Cleo.

What inspired your latest release?
I wrote ‘Woman’ to highlight a problem which I think shouldn’t exist; domestic violence. It’s mostly a tribute to women; a tribute to my mom and so many other women out there who are stronger than they realise.

What has the response to your music been like? What were your expectations?
I didn’t have any expectations for my debut EP release last year but the reviews were wonderful. I then had the opportunity to perform for the Swedish Royal couple and go on my first US tour. The response for my new single has been unimaginable. I’m so happy that ‘Woman’ has touched so many people, it makes me incredibly proud.

What does 2014 have to offer? What’s happening next?
This year has already been so kind to me and I have experienced so many new things. Right now I’m planning on continuing in full speed and enjoying the ride. I have a lot of shows booked for this summer; I have 3 release shows for my new EP Honesty which is released May 29th and I’ll also be playing at the big conference Nordiskt Forum in Malmö, where my song ‘Woman’ is the anthem
